the art of AFFIN

Markus Guentner, known for his musical works in the electronic ambient scene, is expanding his artistic oeuvre with a visual project that focuses on the themes of nature, technology and transformation. His new graphic works are based on real photographs of nature, which have been transformed into abstract, fascinating compositions using digital processing. Using this technique, Guentner creates works that appear both familiar and strange at the same time: the viewer is reminded of organic, natural origins, although their abstraction makes them difficult to recognize.

The works address the contradiction and fusion of randomness and technical precision. Chaotic, uncontrolled elements in the images point to the natural origin of the works, while digital interventions and deformations challenge and redefine the boundary between nature and technology. This results in images that speak their own, visually poetic language and transform the inconspicuous and random aspects of nature into digital space.

Guentner found inspiration in close collaboration with Joachim Spieth, the founder of the Affin label. This partnership, which was previously characterized by musical projects, has now taken on a new visual dimension. Like the label’s musical aesthetic, which incorporates nature (through field recordings) and is reflected in electronic soundscapes, Guentner’s graphic art plays with the layers of natural and digital influences. The result is a synergetic interplay of music and graphics that retains nature as its origin and expands it through technical means.

The visual concept of Affin and its releases is the result of this artistic exchange and pursues a holistic aesthetic that transcends the traditional framework of a music label. The aim is not only to entertain listeners and viewers, but to offer them added value – an experience that defies any rigid definition and yet is constantly growing. Free from dogma, organic and dynamic, Affin’s visual and musical appearance develops as a breathing system that is constantly evolving.
